"I discovered the models for 'Mama's Secret' in a large audience at the annual Kamehameha day celebration on Maui. I loved the hat and girl's dress. For this composition, I left their blankets and the grassy area, removed the crowd, and used props including my slippers and picnic basket. At that time we lived in up country Kula, with outstanding views, which made it convenient to glance out my window for ocean, sky and island references."
